26 Jan Women Fitness Rally

Round the Earth cycling Club, Mumbai wish to arrange an official cycle rally in Mumbai for ladies only, to aware the fitness for ladies in today's lavish lifestyle, as we all know that a lady is the backbone of the family, It has to be fit. All know fitness importance, but only few work for it. Cycling medium is not only the medium for all to come out and meet everyone socially but also to cut down doctor's bill. In India and specifically in cities we are inclined to luxuries. Its good until it doesn't harm. Increased growth of Heart attack, blood pressure problems, obesity, diabetes, etc are the result of our life style. One thing I never accept that- peoples, especially ladies have shortage of time, we all are busy but at last instead of spending few nights and days on bed in hospital its better to spend 1/2 hr on cycle daily. No matter at what time. Take it from me its not necessary to cycle or run or exercise in morning before beak-fast only. Big NO. I proved my fitness in competitions and I don't remember that I ever waked up early for exercise or cycling. My time is every-time.
Its time to all of us to come together and initiate the movement for women fitness.
Talking about the rally-
On 26th January 2010 i,e. on republic day REC club has decided a rally for women. It will be a small, slow and safe rally, so that there will be maximum participation. This will be a legitimate rally under supervision of senior riders. Rally will start from Dadar (Shivaji Park) at 8.00 am but the reporting time will be 7.00 am. With the break-fast we will start the rally. Rally will end at Gateway of India. Total distance will be around 20km. None of the lady has to fear about the distance even if this is her first ride after long time.
Conditions for Rally.
1> Every lady has to know basic cycling.
2> Everyone should have their own cycles
3> Everyone should wear full sleeves cloths( save from sun burn), sun glasses, helmets or caps, shoes.
4> Everyone should bring their water bottles.
5> Intoxication and littering is strictly prohibited.

I request all the ladies to pull up their socks and be ready for the kick start on 26 Jan and my requist to mens is that please help the ladies with your cycles, at least for a day.
All changes or updates will be posted on the GO GRRRLZ and ROUND THE EARTH CYCLING ORG group.

Tale of an Aspirant

India is definitely approaching towards glorious days in cycling sports. I can say this looking at this 8 years old kid 'Omkar'. First time I saw him in a cycle rally that day he rode around 65km, from Gateway of India to Bhyainder. His father is also a cyclist. Omkar started serious cycling since last few months and now he has completed a 850 km cycle rally to Asthavinayak in 7 days. The best part was the last day when he succeed paddling 160km in a day. Omkar and his dad are preparing for 2500+km ride from Gangotri(12000+ altitude) to Ganga Sagar (Kolkata) in Feb 2010. Ride is to save River Ganga.

The WSD difference

Women's Specific Design (WSD) bikes are engineered to fit your body, putting you into a more natural riding position by balancing your weight more evenly between your hips and hands. The result is extreme comfort and control, better balance and optimized power efficiency.

WSD Fit: A Geometry Lesson
1 WSD STEERING PACKAGE
A WSD steering package with Bontrager FIT components provides improved control and confidence-inspiring handling for safer rides.
2 SHORTER TOP TUBE
A shorter top tube evenly redistributes weight between hips and hands to eliminate lower back pain and reduce neck and shoulder stress.
3 SEAT TUBE ANGLE
A steeper seat tube balances weight over pedals to maximize efficiency and create exceptionally powerful pedal strokes.

WSD Comfort: Contact Points

1 LESS PAIN
Narrower handlebars keep hands in a more natural position for greater control and less shoulder pain.
2 MORE COMFORT
A woman’s specific saddle with key anatomical features provides optimized comfort and support.
3 LESS FATIGUE
Shorter-reach levers and smaller-diameter grips are sized to fit a woman’s smaller hands.
4 MORE POWER
Shorter crank arms improve leverage for a more efficient pedal stroke.

SAFER PADELLING

The following basic checks are your guide to safer cycling:
• Before riding, kindly check
o Is tyre pressures correct?
o Do Brakes work effectively?

• Weekly
o Condition of tyres.
o Condition of brake shoes.
o Chain lubrication.
o Tightness of all nuts & bolts.

• Monthly
o Are pedal cranks tight?
o Are gears running smoothly?
o No play in bottom bracket axle or wheel cones.
o Is headset tight – no play?
o Cable lubrication.

Riding Technique
If you are a new rider, the tendency may be to select a gear, which has you pedaling slowly. However, as a faster pedal rate maintains momentum with least effort, you should aim to achieve a pedal rate of between 65 and 85 revolutions per minute. This may feel strange and rather too rapid at first, but if train yourself into it you will finish your trip in rather better condition, having placed least strain on your knees and leg muscles.

Be Prepared
Whenever you have to go out on your bike, particularly in hot whether, kindly take your water frequent sips from your water bottle.
Always carry a puncture repair kit with you on a long trip. It can be a long walk back! Carry an Allen key and a spanner – a dumbbell spanner with different nut sizes is useful. THEFT…!!! Bikes can be stolen! Buy a good lock, preferably a lock with a bracket.

It is the ''POWER OF WILL'' which decides what you achieve in life.
